Factoring takes time and practice before you really understand and become proficient. So to make things easier for you, here are three Powerpoint presentations I have put together to help you along.
The first Powerpoint shows Factoring by Grouping, a method typically shown in the classroom.
The second Powerpoint is called Tic-Tac-Toe Factoring which uses a graphic organizer to help you through the process. If you choose Tic-Tac-Toe, understand that you will eventually want to move on to Factoring by Grouping.
The third Powerpoint looks at Completing the Square, a method that allows you to factor any 2nd degree (quadratic) trinomial, even if it is "unfactorable."
Finally, there is a Powerpoint that shows you how to derive the Quadratic Formula from the standard form of the quadratic equation. You should already have memorized the quadratic formula. This presentation shows you where it comes from. It is useful in helping you understand the whole process.
No matter which method you are working with, be sure you understand it thoroughly and practice it frequently.
